Variables
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Occurred the most disproportionately in hexagons with annual
precipitation more than 432 mm and less than 16% big sagebrush
shrubland. Somewhat less likely where slightly drier (304-431 mm) as
long as ponderosa pine forest is present. In the driest part of its range
(218-303 mm annual precipitation), it occurred mostly in hexagons
with May minimum temperature (hex. avg.) of less than 0 C. The
logistic regression analysis showed positive or negative association
with April precipitation (hex. max.), May maximum temperature (hex.
med.), July precipitation (hex. max.), July minimum temperature (hex.
min.), July maximum temperature (hex. avg.), and-to a lesser
degree-Douglas-fir - w. hemlock - red cedar forest and the extent of
public land.
